About SeaTrek BVI

Marine biology program — sea turtle tagging, coral reef surveying, lionfish, reef fish ID

Our sailing catamarans also serve as floating marine science classrooms. Our staff biologists introduce students to the tropical ecology and wildlife of the islands and their surrounding reefs. Our science program provides a variety of interactive, hands-on marine science activities that include sea turtle tagging, coral reef surveying, invasive and indicator species monitoring, and reef fish identification. By participating in these science projects, students can earn community service and/or academic credit.

Clues to fit

No experience required — SeaTrek is designed for first-timers

No prior sailing or diving experience is necessary. Our programs are designed to take the novice voyager and turn him/her into a confident, experienced diver or sailor. Most participants have never been on a large boat much less at sea for several days; all we ask is that they come with an open mind and a willingness to learn. We are a scuba camp, sailing camp and marine biology camp all in one!

The BVI as a setting — protected waters, colorful reefs, shipwrecks, culture

The British Virgin Islands feature the best of civilization and nature. The sailing is some of the best in the world. The protected waters of the BVI offer calm seas with great wind for sailing and crystal clear water for diving. It is rich with colorful reefs and spectacular shipwrecks that abound with marine life. The islands feature lush rain forests, mountain peaks, and an abundance of local history and culture.

Independence, growth & leadership

Camper testimonial — five summers, home away from home, independence and confidence

I have spent five summers with SeaTrek! It feels like I've grown up with SeaTrek. Last year I was an intern, and it felt so great to be back at my home away from home! I think SeaTrek is an incredible place that allows its participants to learn more about themselves, the ocean, diving, and being a leader. After five years, I fully believe that SeaTrek has helped me become independent and confident in so many things like sailing, diving, and living on a boat with others! Everybody I have known from the summers have all been awesome people and have taken away something different each year.

Parent review — worth every penny, fostered growth and independence

SeaTrek is, without a doubt, worth every penny! Being onboard with a marine biologist, highly trained instructors, and a caring crew, who all prepared the kids for diving daily, studying marine life, tagging turtles and learning about local cultures are just a few of the ways SeaTrek has exposed our daughter to so many opportunities and inspired her to think about the world differently. She has become more independent and self-confident. Our 14 year old described it best before her departure when she was looking for a way to 'combine swimming and science outside of the classroom.' She came off the plane from her 3 week voyage and immediately exclaimed, 'I'm going back!'

Programs & camp life

Sailing program — students skipper 45-foot catamarans, ASA certifications available

You are the crew! No prior experience is required at this sailing camp. From learning the language of sailing, how to read a chart and plot a course to cleating lines, tying knots, and getting your dinghy license, our highly skilled and experienced staff will teach you everything you need to know during your Caribbean sailing camp. SeaTrek students learn by doing as they take full control of their yachts, including sail trimming, navigating, and taking the helm as skipper of the day. The British Virgin Islands are considered the world's sailing capital.

Sample daily life — what a typical voyage looks like from arrival to departure

Sailing is how we get from point A to point B. We try to sail every day, as time and weather permit, while making time for a lot of scuba diving, marine science and water sports in between. We try to go ashore for hikes and island excursions every other day or so. We also go into port every 3 or 4 days to get water and supplies. No matter how hard we've been working during our dive classes or yachting, we always make time to roll out the water sports boats and water toys – kayaks, knee boards, wake boards, tubes and stand up paddle boards.
