When the day's nearly over, and darkness draws in, it's at 'Brown Cow' that our perfect day ends, where we'll sing a few songs and play a few games, and thank God for our newly made friends. And when the last drops of chocolate milk are finally sipped, and we've all said our 'Good Nights' to Tay, then it's time to reflect on the beauty and goodness of our life and the Strong River Way.
Community and belonging — campers from 22 states and 70+ towns
Campers come from 22 states and from over 70 towns in Mississippi. The counselors come from all over the world. What an interesting atmosphere it makes to see all of this come together in one place and to know this little piece of land near Pinola, Mississippi, is now loved by over 30,000 campers and staff.
Whether it is your first time away from home or you are a seasoned camper, come make new friends, challenge yourself to try new things, or just relax and enjoy the natural world. In the one-week session you can do it all!
Setting — farm, garden, and nature at Strong River
You can jump on a wagon and go over to the farm, where there's fruit and veg picking galore, like blueberries, peaches, plums, and tomatoes. There's squash and zucchini, potatoes and corn, and okra and lady peas too. There's eggplant and cabbage and watermelon sweet, just waiting to be picked by you.
We've kept our cabins rustic so you can really hear nature, and breathe fresh air, and discover all the things you can live without. Tay even thought we could relax more and stay focused in the moment if we didn't let time rule our lives, so she asked us all to leave our watches and clocks at home. We get up with the sun, go to bed when it's dark and eat when the biscuits come out of the oven.
Special session designed to introduce Strong River Camp to younger brothers/sisters, cousins, neighbors or anyone aged 6–10 who would like to spend three nights. Arrival Wednesday afternoon 2:30–4:00 p.m. Departure Saturday morning 8:00–10:00 a.m.
Food and dietary needs — accommodation and fresh garden produce
We do our best to accommodate all kinds of diets. We can provide non-dairy milk and gluten free bread, pizza, waffles, and more. Frequently, campers bring a small selection of their favorite food items — especially alternate desserts — which we can keep in the kitchen and make available when you need them. Vegetarians are usually very happy at camp as we grow a wide variety of fresh vegetables and have a salad bar available at many meals. Any camper may come to us during a meal and request an alternative choice if they are not happy with the menu.
Strong River Way — no schedules, camper-directed activities
All campers decide for themselves what activities they want to do and how long they want to do them. We want you to learn how to make choices for yourself and how to manage your time to be able to do ALL the fun things we do at camp.
