Instructional sports and internal sports leagues are built into campers' schedules twice each day. Campers go to each athletic activity with all of the boys or girls their age (their division) and our professional adult coaches run fun and organized drills to help campers learn and improve upon their skills in each sport. They also play on internal league teams in flag football, basketball, soccer, and baseball/softball. Additionally, Tyler Hill campers participate in the Wayne County Camp Athletic League, and we host other camps and travel to other camps for just about every sport imaginable.
First-year camper support — before and during camp
First-year campers at Tyler Hill are a lucky bunch — and are extremely special to us. We limit the number of new campers we take each summer because it's important to us to focus time and attention on these first-timers and their families. The transition from home life to camp life is an exciting one, and we are "hand-holders" every step of the way. Being a first-year camper and feeling part of the Tyler Hill family begins LONG before your child's first actual summer at Tyler Hill! During the ten months leading up to camp, your first-timer will join us at several Tyler Hill get-togethers held in New York, New Jersey, Florida and even up at camp.
Once camp begins, our new campers get right into daily life at camp! Their camp big sisters or big brothers help them feel like they have an older sibling watching out for them, and their counselors, friendship coaches, group leaders, division leaders, head counselors and directors make sure that they are happy and having fun!! And while your first year campers are settling in and having a blast, we'll make sure you're in-the-know. We maintain close communication with parents so that you know exactly how your child is adjusting — we know it's an adjustment for you, too!
Twice a day, your camper will have the chance to choose from a wide variety of "Electives." This supervised choice time enables campers to customize their Tyler Hill experience and to explore those areas that interest them most — from cooking and ceramics to robotics and 3-D printing, rock climbing, zip line, waterskiing, drama, rock band, yoga, martial arts and dozens more.
Adventure is HIGH on the list of our campers' favorites at Tyler Hill! Our climbing walls, high-ropes course, zip-line, giant "swing" provide heart-pumping opportunities for every camper — beginners and advanced adventurers alike. Campers can also choose to mountain bike, go on group hikes, learn to pitch tents and "survive" in the outdoors, build campfires and sleep out in our on-site "Teepee Village."
Tyler Hill is a traditional, full season co-ed camp for campers ranging in age from 7–16. Set on a magnificent 220-acre campus just two hours northwest of New York City, Tyler Hill features its own two large private lakes, a heated pool, unsurpassed athletic facilities, a professional nine-hole golf course, and twelve championship tennis courts. But more important than any facility on our campus are the nurturing counselors, unsurpassed spirit and years of tradition that make Tyler Hill a second home for our campers and counselors.
Special Events at Tyler Hill pump up the program and keep kids laughing, cheering, going crazy, being creative and having a BLAST!! From our "Lazy Crazy Wednesdays" to evening activities to Olympics to Color War, there is never a dull moment at Tyler Hill! Events include Carnival, Battle of the Boys vs. Girls, Guinness Book of World Records Day, Wild and Wacky Water Day, Food Network Cook-offs, "Primp my Golfcart," Laser Tag, and Tyler Hill's own "THC's Got Talent."
Every Friday evening we gather as a full camp at our lakeside outdoor "CAMPitheatre" for our STARFISH ceremony. Campers volunteer each week to share their experiences and thoughts on that week's value, including how Tyler Hill has impacted their lives. We then sing traditional camp songs and our Head Counselors give out weekly camper STARFISH awards. If you ask our campers, they'll tell you that the STARFISH award means the world to them, and that our STARFISH program helps to define summers at THC — and keeps them on track during the months that they're away from camp.
CIT program — apprenticeship and Olympics leadership
Our CIT – "Counselors In Training" (going into 11th grade) are also part of our apprenticeship program in camp, through which they get to work in a specialty area and with a younger age group of campers. Furthermore, our CITs plan and run our annual THC OLYMPICS — where they shine and spread their spirit and leadership with the entire camp. It's a highlight and culmination of their years at camp. We provide structure, supervision, feedback and training so that they are successful AND prepared for their next summer as part of our staff.
Our Leadership Team is made up of a highly trained group of exceptional adult professionals — Group Leaders, Division Leaders, Head Counselors and Head Specialists are all part of the mix to ensure your child's success at camp. Our staff salaries are among the highest in the industry, and thus ensure a wide pool of top applicants and keep our proven staff returning year after year.

Our Tyler Hill Teen and CIT program is vibrant, engaging, dynamic, and is planned with our 9th, 10th and 11th grade campers in mind. Leadership opportunities and "unplugged camp life" create the perfect balance for our maturing teenage campers. From exclusive community service programs and more flexible and choice-based programming to exciting trips out of camp, we continue to create an environment in which our oldest campers thrive. And they return year after year because they can't imagine ever spending a summer away from the friends they have made at Tyler Hill.
