Community & belonging — inclusive welcome for all

Whoever you are, wherever you come from, and wherever you are on your journey, you are loved exactly as you are—and there is always a place for you here. At Camp Washington, we strive to create a place where everyone belongs. We create brave, welcoming spaces where all of God's children can feel seen, valued, supported, and fully included in community.

Staff quality — Executive Director Bart Geissinger on community

The community here is inclusive and welcoming. We invite God's children of all ages into a safe place to explore their faith, and their relationship and responsibility to creation, a place to simply play and be God's children. The simple joys of a sunset, a campfire, a summer afternoon rain shower, the smile of a child making a new friend, the high five of a victorious capture the flag game are the things that bring me joy.

Setting & history — 300-acre campus in the Litchfield Hills

Established in 1917, Camp Washington's 300-acre campus in the Litchfield Hills welcomes people of all faith traditions to find God in nature, to relax and learn, to have fun and make lifelong friends. Camp Washington is the official camp and retreat center of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut.

Traditions & shared moments

Values & faith — Episcopal roots, open to all traditions

Camp Washington is a sacred place where God's love for the world, made known to us in Jesus Christ, is shared with all God's people through the ministry of hospitality. We are an inviting, diverse, accepting community that offers a safe place for reflection and renewal, education and training, that encourages creativity and a sense of adventure by exploring and experiencing God's mission of restoration and reconciliation.

Independence, growth & leadership

Staff quality — Summer Camp Programs Director James Williams on belonging and growth

I am excited to join Camp Washington's Summer Camp ministry, and to add my passion and joy to the journey of helping others become their full, authentic, and transformed selves. I am a cradle-Episcopalian and have been engaged in the whimsical work of camp for 8 years. I grew up attending camp in the Diocese of Virginia, where I experienced a deep sense of belonging and community. At camp we find out together what is possible, do the hard/fulfilling work of growing in Christ's love, and HAVE FUN! Joy, safety, and community make growth inevitable - so there is no better place to be than camp!
