Behavior policy — safe, caring community with clear expectations

Winding Trails is a safe, caring community where individual differences are valued, where people are supported in reaching their goals and accomplishing challenges, and where everyone can have fun. Since creating such a community requires the commitment of all participants, we ask everyone to agree to the behavior expectations: Show Respect for Others; Show Respect for Myself; Show Respect for the Environment and Camp Facilities; Show Respect for Everyone's Health and Safety.

Community and behavior — Camp Cup, Camper of the Week, positive culture

Campers and counselors work together, learn new skills, and build an honest, caring and respectful community where all individuals grow. It is this strong sense of community that translates into an unparalleled loyalty and fondness for Winding Trails, among counselors and campers alike. Each week, a unit is chosen from each section of camp — Lower, Middle, and Upper — to receive the Camp Cup. Campers award points throughout the week for positive attitudes, going above and beyond, good sportsmanship, helping fellow campers, and more. Each camp group selects a Camper of the Week every week, based on their actions going the extra mile.

Adventure Education — ropes course, climbing tower, zip line

Adventure Education includes team building and group communication skills taught using the Low Ropes Course, Raft Building, High Ropes Course, a 40-foot Climbing Tower with Zip Line, and our Odyssey Course. The 300-foot long and 40-foot high Zip Line is located on the top platform of our Climbing Tower. All programs are designed to be inclusive and accessible. Every participant, regardless of physical condition or ability, has an important role to play.

Setting — 380 acres, Dunning Lake, trails

Winding Trails exists on a beautiful 380-acre parcel of land with pristine woods, clear waterways, and outstanding facilities. As you enter the property you are immediately welcomed by the beautiful pristine 80-acre Dunning Lake. From there you must exit your car and get on foot or bike and truly begin to explore the rustic beauty of the area with its 12.5 miles of trails, Walton Pond, wildlife, and Nature's Porch.

Growing confidence & friendships

CIT program — leadership development for entering 9th and 10th graders

The position of C.I.T. at Winding Trails Summer Day Camp is an important one. If chosen, we will help you develop many of the tools needed to work with children such as: child safety and supervision, interactions for appropriate age levels, new games and activities for kids, and leadership skills. The C.I.T. program is designed as a two-year program for entering ninth and tenth graders.

Lasting impact — growth, confidence, teamwork

The heart of our programs has much to do with stretching to meet mental and physical challenges, gaining confidence and becoming skilled at teamwork. Our programs incorporate the natural surroundings and require a can-do attitude, cooperation and age-appropriate independence. Watch as your child grows socially, physically and emotionally stronger as the summer proceeds.

Cubs preschool program — early childhood staff, low ratio

Three and four year old campers can look forward to an exciting summer at Winding Trails Summer Day Camp in our Cub group. Your preschooler can participate in a half-day camp program 5 days a week. They will have arts & crafts, sports, water play, and an exposure to nature, music, and more. Our staff, experienced in early childhood and camping, will provide a high quality program for your child. A very low counselor-camper ratio will assure that your child receives individual attention. The Cub session is from 9:00am to 1:45pm.

Swim program — American Red Cross standards, all levels

The Winding Trails swim program runs according to the American Red Cross standards for swim lessons. Winding Trails offers six comprehensive course levels and two preschool levels that teach participants how to swim skillfully and safely. Safety, health and self-esteem are important to us. Progression is at the swimmer's own pace.

For parents & families

Hot days and rainy days — camper safety and schedule adjustments

We take every precaution to keep your children cool and comfortable during heat waves. All campers are scheduled to swim each day. We also have sprinklers set up around the camp. Counselors will ensure that campers are taking frequent drinks at the drinking fountains and refilling water bottles regularly. During days of extreme heat, counselors will move physical activities to shaded areas whenever possible. As the heat builds, sports and other physical activities will be replaced by games and other non-strenuous activities in the shade. We will run camp as normal as possible on rainy days. In the event of weather that forces us indoors, we will provide shelter in Garmany Hall, Nature's Porch, and the Camp Office Building.
