Friendships — what makes camp friendships unique
When we ask our campers what the best part of camp is, they say, 'our friends.' You will find that your camp friendships are slightly different than all the other friends in your life. At Wohelo you get to know each other on the inside, not based on what you look like on the outside (we all look the same in our uniforms, anyway). Living and learning in a fun and relaxed atmosphere is the perfect place to make and grow the most valuable friendships. Your Wohelo friends last a lifetime.
Who Wohelo campers are — diversity and first-timers welcome
Girls from all over the world come to Wohelo. Our campers represent 24 different states, 6 different countries, and lots of different personalities. Some have heard about Wohelo through friends, many have been to Wohelo before (about 50%) and some have never been to camp, but often parents or grandparents went to camp. Every Wohelo girl shares a love of learning, a sense of adventure and the motivation to have fun.
Located on beautiful Sebago Lake in Raymond, Maine, Camp Wohelo sits on a mile of shorefront divided into three coves with two beaches and three islands. Urban amenities are available in Portland, ME – 45 minutes away and Boston, MA. – 3 hours away. Camp is nestled in dense forests surrounding the crystal clear water of Sebago Lake.
BT Duty — responsibility and teamwork built into daily life
BT duty refers to the duty of cleaning the bathrooms that rotates from cabin to cabin. This is a way to show that we are responsible for ourselves and we are able to work together to wash sinks, sweep floors, and replenish bathroom supplies.
Seven weeks allow campers to cultivate friendships, build confidence, and learn life-long skills. Campers return home feeling independent, strong, and proud of who they are. While the rest of the world is increasingly hectic, Wohelo is not. A summer at Wohelo represents a series of life-changing experiences that will benefit girls for the rest of their lives.
Our campers enjoy a banquet of activities from which to choose — swimming, canoeing, sailing, kayaking, water skiing, wake surfing, tennis, dance, dramatics, nature and campcraft, and a full plate of crafts: silversmithing, weaving, pottery, painting, and glass beading. Campers create their own schedule with the guidance of staff, focusing on activities they want to try for the first time or improving the ones they most enjoy. Most campers also choose to challenge themselves by striving for honors in the activity areas that interest them.
