First-timer anxiety — how parents can prepare themselves

Rest assured, our staff are trained professionals, and many of them started out at Camp Mi-Te-Na as campers themselves and have returned year after year. They know what it's like to be a first time camper, so they can easily relate to your camper and make sure that he's having an experience. Our staff are dedicated professionals that return year after year to provide campers with the same experience that they once had as campers themselves.

First-timer anxiety — preparing your camper for separation

Browse through our website and Official Facebook Page together so that he can view the pictures and see all of the exciting new activities that he will be able to participate in. Talk about all of the fun things he will be doing and all of the new friends that he will meet. Don't focus on how much you'll miss him. Reassure him things will be fine while he is at camp, and remind him that he is not the only one going away to camp for the first time. There will be a lot of other campers also attending camp for the first time and many that are the same age. First time campers are always welcome to visit Camp Mi-Te-Na before their scheduled sessions.

Traditions & shared moments

History — 111-year tradition on Halfmoon Lake

Camp Mi-Te-Na was founded by the Manchester YMCA and held its first season on the shores of Halfmoon Lake in 1913. The use of that land by Camp Mi-Te-Na has allowed us to transform thousands of lives and form memories that last a lifetime. The Granite YMCA and camp staff have many goals that they work towards each year to continue to build the 111-year long tradition of Camp Mi-Te-Na.

Special events — Pirate Day, Gold Rush, carnivals, and more

Every session at camp we feature a variety of evening activities, theme days, and special events. Pirate Day, Gold Rush, brain games, carnivals, and cabin challenges have all been major features of our program calendars in years past. These events allow campers to compete, connect and collaborate, in addition to the daily activities.

Independence, growth & leadership

Goals — self-confidence, independence, and friendship

It is the goal of Camp Mi-Te-Na that each camper will be given the opportunity to develop self-confidence and independence. As a result, campers will feel good about themselves and have a better outlook on life and their self-worth within their local communities. It is the goal of Camp Mi-Te-Na that each camper will build relationships with others and make friends during their time at camp. As a result, campers will feel a sense of belonging within their peer groups.

LIT program — leadership development for ages 14-15

The LIT Program is a two-week experience designed for our oldest campers, ages 14 and 15. This program celebrates the growth these campers have shown over their previous summers and provides meaningful opportunities to develop their leadership skills as they begin to consider the Counselor in Training (CIT) Program and reflect on the impact camp has had on them. Centered around teamwork and connection, the LIT Program focuses on building strong bonds among participants while encouraging them to be positive role models for younger campers.

Programs & camp life

CIT program — structure and what trainees learn

The CIT program runs for 4 weeks and is broken up into four different stages. In their first week, they learn the duties of a counselor, how to work with youth, and bond with their fellow CITs. In their second week, CITs will spend full days shadowing staff members and observing how they conduct the day's activities. In their third week, they start helping co-lead activities, and taking an active role in the cabin and activity areas they are assigned to. In their fourth and final week, they are each assigned to a full time cabin where they get to interact with the campers and put their skills to the test by helping deal with common cabin problems.
