Camp Pontiac is a wonderful camp! My son had a great experience there. He tried so many new and exciting activities. Each day he did something different like woodworking, bungee, and arts and crafts. He absolutely LOVES the sports at Pontiac. The training and electives have made him a more confident player especially at home. We are looking forward to another amazing summer at Pontiac!!!

The counselor experience: When all is said and done, this camp is exactly what you make of it. Yes, some of the kids you watch are incredibly ill-mannered and have no real concept of value. But you have to remember they're just a product of their environment and at the end of the day they're children. If you put in the time and effort, they respond to it and become tangible. You'll see them on previously unseen level. Yes, I found the parent tours a little dramatic but it is a business. The owners aren't trying to entertain your kids for you all summer for free. So why wouldn't they try to present that in the best possible light? Apart from that, you get to meet alot of great people from all around and spend all summer bonding with them. You form friendships. You become close. You learn that camp pontiac is a world of its own, an unforgettable experience. I do think its ridiculous that they charge you exuberantly to take you to places on your day off though. Do something about that.

My son is 10 years old and will be going to Camp Pontiac for his second summer. In fact, our 7 year old will be going for the first time this summer as well. Camp Pontiac provided our son the most incredible summer experience. The facilities are top notch. Our son is very athletic and Pontiac provided him with an appropriate level of instruction, play and competition. The staff is unbelievable. They are caring, comforting and fun! Our son grew an amazing bond with old and new friends, as well as his counselors. He talks about camp all year round and cannot wait to return to Pontiac this summer!

My sons will tell you that Camp Pontiac is the BEST place on earth. They consider Camp Pontiac their summer home. At the end of each summer, my sons come home from camp being more responsible, respectful and aware of the world around them. In regards to the activities - the sports instruction is second to none but Pontiac also has so many other activities besides sports - such as outdoor adventure, arts & crafts, cooking, performing arts, an amazing water park & so much more. The professional staff works hard to do their best to make each camper shine so each campers feels good about themselves. Since this camp is owned by 2 doctors, it is a comfort to know that all Pontiac campers have access to the best on site medical care. As a parent, I am so grateful to Pontiac for building this amazing safe environment with a nurturing culture that has given my boys an experience that will be part of them always.

Camp Pontiac is hands down, the best. It has a great environment and is a very welcoming place. I have made so many memories there that will last a lifetime and I have met some of my best friends there. Yes, being a counselor is not an easy job, but you get out what you put in. If you are having fun, so are the campers. They look up to their counselors so much and it makes you realize why you are there. I plan on going back as long as I am able to because I can't imagine my summer spent any other way. It is a beautiful place filled with wonderful, caring people. When the time comes, I will most definitely send my children to Camp Pontiac.

I have been a counselor at Camp Pontiac for two summers now and fully intend on returning this summer as well! It is amazing how easy it is to bond with the campers and staff and how quickly it comes! This job was a blessing for me and these are times I will never forget. Being a counselor is hard work but it is all very worth it. Camp Pontiac has excellent directors, senior staff, counselors, and campers! I 100% believe it is a privilege to work at such a place!

Well i was a counselor here this summer, and I just quit because I could not handle how the directors and the kids treated me. These kids pay 10,000 to come here, which means they have maids at home and expect everything to be done for them. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life. I was called a **** almost everyday by the kids and all the directors care about is the money. Remember a camper is happy if the counselor is happy, which was never the case. A bunch of the people i met there, which i consider my close friends, are hating it there and are trying to get through because they need the money. When it comes down to it this camp is horrible. The kids are bratty, and all this camp is, is a business. So for all of you who are trying to be a part of this camp and want to apply, please think about it. I guarantee you will not have a good time, because it's not what you expect at all. Oh and the first week (orientation) all we did was paint and mulch which was not stated :

This is for people who want to work at CP: if you have barely any personality, you like not having any control of your life, and you want to have nine year old kids walk all over you, this is the camp for you! if you want to have a great camp experience with campers who are genuinely excited about the opportunity to be at camp, keep looking. We were not allowed to discipline the children, no matter the OUTRAGEOUS things they said or personal insults they threw. You are there to serve children at a spa for teenagers. Expect nothing more and you will enjoy your two month experience as an indentured servant.

Less than happy. The owners and top management put on a good show for the parents, but are as phoney as a $3 bill!!! They care about the Etra name and nothing else. My son attended 2 summers, and what a mistake that was. They have too many kids and there staff is more concerned about their dates with one another than the kids. Marc is a terrible director, who is always more interested in being "right" than doing right by the children and their families. He is impossible to speak to, and only slightly less condisending than the Etras, who try to intimidate people into keeping quiet about problems within the camp. "What happens at Pontiac, stays at Pontiac" - that is if the owners and directors have their way! They lie. Beware!! You can find a much better camp and staff for your child - I did.

What is all the nonsense about Pontiac snobs and being upscale? Ponitiac is just a lot of very tacky, low class people from Merrick and Queens at a camp. They all sound like Fran Drescher! (boys, too!)

I like this camp so much. I went to this camp for 5 years and i loved it. It is so much fun and there is always something to do. I dont think that there is anything really wrong with the camp. It doesn't matter about how many things there are at the camp because its still a nice place to be. I feel that you get to make so many friends that u will really keep in touck with for the rest of your life. The bunks are really nice and i love how the owners are doing what they need to do to the camp to make it write. They are really making the camp a better place. Last summer i went to Boston and i loved it. It was so much fun. If i were u i would so go to Camp Pontiac. It is the best place u will ever see in your life. So go to Camp Pontiac and i bet u will have the best time of you're life. Also the owners are the best. They take care of everything and mostly know all the kids names in the camp and u know how hard that is for two camp owners to know everybody's name in the camp.

My daughter just came home from her first year at Camp Pontiac and cannot stop talking about it! She had the best time and made great friends. Most of the girls in her group are from New Jersey and Florida, with a few from NYC, LI and Westchester, not just LI. The facilities are amazing and so much money is put back into the camp. As far as being a "sports" camp, my daughter is not an athlete and was busy all summer trying all kinds of activities not just sports. It is also not as jappy as everyone makes it out to be- we saw many camps that were way jappier than Pontiac. The owners may put on quite a show, but they can stand behind everything they say. They truly enjoy the kids and the camp, and it is evident after spending a summer there. I would not send my kids anywhere else.

Whoever says this camp is jappy or snobby, get over it. My parents want me to have the best in life, and camp Pontiac is it. People are just jealous of rich kids and this camp is full of them. So what? Do you expect us to live in dumps? No way. Do you expect us to dress in Target or Gap? I don't think so. Sure, my friends at camp are the A crowd, but someone has to be and if you are not in the A crowd, try a different camp. Try camp Tyler Hill. If you hate this camp, you are a jealous loser.

This is an AMAZING CAMP!! Everyone ther cares about you,the concelors are hand picked or are asked to leave. It is a very well known camp from all over (( moslty Long Island)) and is not a last resort; more like a reach for an exclusive group that can afford it. The activitys are well thought out and a blast! GO PONTIAC!

A dismal camp. Turned out to be the complete opposite of what was "sold" to us during the "dog and pony show" that the owners put on during the camp visit. Massive and disorganized. Owners seemed more concerned with impressing the parents than focusing on the children. Incidences of neglegent counsellors abounded - several were dismissed halfway through camp. Would not recommend.

I love this camp!I have had the best summer of my life here..You make so many friends and memories at Pontiac. I have made best friends here. They have a large werarity of activitys. The activities are:sports(lots of them.)arts and crafts, waterfront, plays and LOTS more! You go on great trips. The food is okay. Their is canteen everyday and from juniors on.....you can go to the ice cream shop. Lower camp bunks are very nice because they were just redone. This year they are doing middle camp bunks. I can't wait for camp.... Color War is amazing!! COME TO CAMP

I went to this camp for three years and I kept hoping it would get better. That didn't happen. This camp has too many sports. Some councelors were mean. Alot of japs go here. The arts and crafts were good, and so were the camp outs. The trips were too far away, BUT they were fun. You wake up too early on color war.And the pool is too cold that your nose turns blue. Also free play there is nothing to do.The food is okay. HORRAY!!I'M GONE FROM CAMP PONTIAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me add another concurrence re: the owners' disproportionate emphasis on marketing, as the camp has essentially turned into one big sales pitch. The directors spend so much more time and effort SELLING it than RUNNING it that the camp, its programs and its people must necessarily suffer as a result. But please, folks, could you spare us the BS about the camp being "filthy" or "disorganized," the made-up nonsense about rats and public nudity, the clichéd exaggerations about the food and crowding, and the ad hominem generalizations about the population, because it's all just simply not true. The camp has excellent facilities, staff and programs, and a population that by and large loves the place and each other, but it is not immune to the social and economic issues that plague every camp in the industry to one degree or another. Maybe Pontiac is not for you; if that's the case, say so, but don't resort to broad, sweeping and unsupportable claims to make that point.

An exceptional camp with the most dedicated directors in the industry. New facilities are added almost yearly, while existing facilities undergo regular facelifts and renovations. Ambitious activity program is complex but affords campers myriad choices, unparallelled personalization and real professional instruction. 2006 counselor staff was the best in years. Only drawback here is aggressive marketing, which occasionally interferes with, disrupts, undermines, or contradicts the reality of day-to-day camp life and operation. Nonetheless, an extraordinary place; Pontiac has emerged as a premier Northeast sleepaway camp, and deservedly so.
